About Us

Hi, I’m Carter, an IT Security Specialist based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. My professional and educational background has prioritised cybersecurity, placing it at the forefront of my career. Starting at Belfast Metropolitan College, where I studied Cybersecurity & Networking, which led me to my first IT-related role as a helpdesk technician.

During my time in this role, I was tasked with handling any and all issues for our Belfast site, serving a user base of 600+ with varying technical backgrounds. This allowed me to gain hands-on experience in various areas of the field, such as identity and access management. I was assigned tasks relating to the cybersecurity suite, which included being one of a segregated duties process to manage DLP access for the entire Belfast site, managing, troubleshooting, and deploying drive encryption across large numbers of workstations.

I then moved on to work within SOCs as an analyst, where I performed as part of a team to analyse and manage our SIEMs for hundreds of customers, presenting my findings and suggested remediations in a clear and concise manner for a range of customers with varying understandings of the incident logs or security appetite. Within this role, I gained an invaluable understanding of event/firewall/AV log analysis, which developed into gaining responsibilities for tuning, managing, and deploying rules on various leading security stacks. I was responsible for responding to escalated incidents, such as performing remediation and incident response against true positives or suspected detections of ransomware or lateral movement as raised through our triage process. This involves issuing kill and quarantine commands, initiating device isolation, and monitoring for further developments. This was followed by Cloud Cyber Security Consulting.

I have worked with Linux within my roles and in additional work through my freelance jobs, where I managed multiple hardened Linux servers in a cloud environment. This can be complemented with my home lab experience in the cyber suites.

Within freelance roles, I have been responsible for the rollout and completion of large projects across groups of up to 30 websites, and ensured the timely delivery of said projects while documenting and performing to a high standard.
